A question from an anonymous reader...
But I have this issue: How to find the total flux in a given region? tvstat can make regions, but it shows only mean and rms. Is there any task that will show total flux under a selection?

Total Flux in an Image Region?

Hmmm...in my TVSTAT, it gives a 'flux density' measurement that should be the total flux inside the aperture you just defined. It's on the last line of output. I've seen publications where people use TVSTAT to measure the fluxes of their sources...
If your image doesn't have a beam in the header, tvstat doesn't calculate the flux density. If it's appropriate insert the beam in the header using PUTHEAD. If that's not appropriate (say your image is in Jy/pixel or counts or something like that), then the total flux is just the number of pixels times the mean.
